March Better. Be Better.

The Purple Pride Marching Band (PPMB) proudly represents the Academy of Richmond County, carrying forward a tradition of excellence, school pride, and musical achievement. Every performance reflects the dedication, discipline, and teamwork of students who strive to represent their school and community with distinction.

Throughout the year, the Purple Pride Marching Band performs at school events, football games, community celebrations, and regional performances. The band is honored to participate in numerous local parades, including the Christmas Parade, Martin Luther King Jr. Parade, and Black History Month Parade, sharing music that brings people together while celebrating the rich culture and spirit of Augusta.

Beyond the local community, the Purple Pride Marching Band seeks opportunities to grow through travel and performance. The band has proudly participated in Music in the Park at Six Flags Over Georgia and has attended collegiate marching band events, including visits to Benedict College, where students experience the excitement and excellence of university marching bands while broadening their musical horizons.

Each year, the Purple Pride Marching Band eagerly takes the field for the area's Battle of the Bands, embracing the challenge to perform with passion, precision, and pride. The band's drumline also represents PPMB in specialized competitions, showcasing the talent, creativity, and dedication of its percussionists.

The 2026 season marks a truly historic milestone for the Purple Pride Marching Band. For the first time in six years, PPMB once again marches with a Drum Major leading the ensemble. Making this achievement even more meaningful, the newly appointed Drum Major is being mentored and trained by the last Drum Major to hold the position before its six-year absence. This remarkable passing of the mace symbolizes the continuation of tradition, leadership, and excellence as one generation prepares the next.

Above all, the Purple Pride Marching Band is more than a performing ensemble. It is a family united by music, perseverance, and school pride. Whether performing on the football field, marching through city streets, competing on the competition field, or supporting one another behind the scenes, the members of PPMB continue to demonstrate what it means to represent the Academy of Richmond County with honor, commitment, and Purple Pride.

Our story continues to be written with every rehearsal, every performance, and every student who chooses to become part of the Purple Pride family.
